接続詞（and・but・or・that）の基本、書きかえ、英作文などの問題です。接続詞は、語と語、文と文をつなぐことばです。それぞれの意味と、文をつなぐ形をしっかり覚えましょう。
and・but・or
形：A ＋ 接続詞 ＋ B
意味：A and B（AとB、Aそして B） A but B（AだがB、AしかしB） A or B（AかB、AまたはB）
- Ken and Yumi are in the same class.（ケンとユミは同じクラスです）
- I read the book, but it wasn’t interesting.（私はその本を読みましたが、おもしろくありませんでした）
- Do you like dogs or cats?（あなたは犬が好きですか、それともねこが好きですか）
but は、前とあとの内容が反対になるときに使います。or は「どちらか1つ」を選ぶときに使います。
- Which season do you like, summer or winter?（夏と冬では、どちらの季節が好きですか）
both A and B ／ either A or B
- both A and B：AとBの両方とも
Both Ken and Tom are on the soccer team.（ケンとトムはどちらもサッカー部です） - either A or B：AかBのどちらか
Either Yumi or Meg will play the piano.（ユミかメグのどちらかがピアノをひきます）
命令文, and ／ or 〜
形：命令文, and 〜. 意味：…しなさい、そうすれば〜
形：命令文, or 〜. 意味：…しなさい、さもないと〜
- Practice hard, and you’ll win the game.（一生懸命練習しなさい、そうすれば試合に勝つでしょう）
- Get up now, or you’ll be late for school.（今起きなさい、さもないと学校に遅れますよ）
接続詞 that
形：主語 ＋ think (know, hope, say) ＋ that ＋ 主語 ＋ 動詞
意味：〜ということ
- I think that Ken is right.（私はケンが正しいと思います）
- I know that she can speak Chinese.（私は彼女が中国語を話せることを知っています）
- I hope that you’ll get well soon.（私はあなたがすぐによくなるといいと思います）
- Yumi says that it will be sunny tomorrow.（ユミは明日は晴れるだろうと言っています）
that のあとは「主語 ＋ 動詞」の語順です。この that は省略することができます。
- I think (that) the movie is interesting.（私はその映画はおもしろいと思います）
疑問文は Do you think (that) 〜? の形になります。
- Do you think he will come?（あなたは彼が来ると思いますか）
書き換え
次の文は、接続詞を使って1つの文にすることができます。
- Is this bag yours? Is it Tom’s?
→ Is this bag yours or Tom’s? - I like baseball. My brother likes it, too.
→ Both I and my brother like baseball. - He will win the game. I hope so.
→ I hope that he will win the game. - I called Ken. He didn’t answer.
→ I called Ken, but he didn’t answer.
注意すること
1. and と but の使い分け 同じような内容を並べるときは and、反対の内容をつなぐときは but を使います。日本文の「〜が」「〜けれど」に注意しましょう。 2. 命令文のあとの and と or
- , and 〜 ＝ そうすれば〜（よいことが起こる）
- , or 〜 ＝ さもないと〜（よくないことが起こる）
3. both A and B は複数あつかい both A and B が主語のときは、動詞は複数の形になります。
- Both Emi and Kumi like music.（✗ likes）
